RM10,000 for Sandakan Landslide Victim

KOTA KINABALU: The State Government will provide RM10,000 in cash assistance to the family of the elderly man who was killed in a landslide in Sandakan early Wednesday.


State Home Affairs and Research Secretary Datuk Awang Shahminan Sahari stated that the Sandakan Municipal Council President, Walter Kenson, has been instructed to locate the victim's next of kin to facilitate the prompt handover of the assistance.


The victim, identified as Agustine J Lingam, 76, was reportedly attempting to start the generator at a hotel when earth from the surrounding area collapsed and buried him.


The incident was confirmed by Sandakan Fire and Rescue Chief Jimmy Lagung.


Meanwhile, as of 12pm today, the Sabah State Disaster Command Centre recorded 1,306 people affected by flooding in Kota Marudu, Paitan, and Pitas, across 40 villages.
