Six Families Left Homeless After Fire in Kampung Pangkalan Bukit Garam

KINABATANGAN: Six families was left homeless after a fire destroyed six houses at Kampung Pangkalan Bukit Garam on Tuesday night.


Member of Parliament for Kinabatangan, Mohd Kurniawan Naim Moktar, and the State Assemblyman for Lamag, Mohd Ismail Ayub (Miha), visited the victims on Wednesday to assess the situation and offer support.


The blaze also destroyed a four-wheel-drive vehicle and an unoccupied house. All belongings of the affected families were lost in the fire. No casualties were reported.


Speaking during the visit, both representatives said they would raise the matter with the relevant authorities to ensure that assistance is expedited for the victims.


They expressed their appreciation to the Fire and Rescue Department, the Police, Sabah Electricity, the Malaysian Civil Defence Force, the Social Welfare Department, villagers and all parties involved for their swift response and continued support during and after the incident.


Describing the incident as a severe trial for the affected families, Mohd Ismail said the timing was particularly difficult as it occurred on the eve of Ramadan, which begins tomorrow.


Essential supplies have since been distributed to the victims by the relevant authorities, while further assistance is expected to be channelled as soon as possible.
