PENAMPANG: The government is urged to speed up efforts to address flood problem that often occurs in the district.
Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS) Moyog Division Chief John Chryso said flood problems can be solved if the flood mitigation project in the district can be completed immediately.
"The distribution of rainfall in this state is seen as erratic which at the same time could result in flood problems that are becoming more frequent in this district,'
"Therefore, the government needs to speed up the flood mitigation plan, particularly in Penampang, because this concerns the local community every time during rainy season," he said.
John also stated that the rain that occurred a few days ago have flooded some areas in the districts causing damage to many items that belong to the residents.
Flood problems he said could also badly affect the daily activities as well as business sectors of the residents here since they have to close for operation.
"The business sector in this district such as the public market and shops in Donggongon Town is also affected every time during rainy seasons.
"Traders not only have to close for business but also bear the damage of goods and premises," he said,
According to John, while the district has always been known to face such a situation, the flood situation has worsened in recent years.
"Sometimes although the rain is not heavy, some places, especially in the low-lying areas, would still be flooded," he said.
