KUALA LUMPUR: Students of higher education institutions who received education funding from the ANGKASA Foundation are hoped to contribute to the development of cooperatives and venture into entrepreneurship.
Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative (MEDC) Datuk Ewon Benedick said this during the presentation of documents to new intakes for the session 2023/2024 with educational funding from the ANGKASA Foundation, at Ungku Aziz Complex Auditorium (Angkasa Headquarters).
He said the students should establish cooperatives in their respective communities because entrepreneurship through cooperatives can also help increase income and improve the society’s economy.
According to him, his ministry through its agencies such as the Malaysian Cooperative Institute (IKMa) and the National Entrepreneurship Institute (INSKEN), provides various training and entrepreneurship programs that are beneficial to all Malaysians who are interested in becoming entrepreneurs.
“In addition, IKMa, which is an agency under the ministry, has its university called the Malaysian Cooperative Entrepreneurship University (UKKM) which offers diploma, bachelor's, and master's degrees in entrepreneurship,” he shared.
He stated that the significant role and potential of the cooperative movement is continuously developing and meeting the economic and social demands of the people, including addressing issues related to the cost of living, inflation, food supply, and safety. Cooperatives complement and work together with the government and private sector to fill the gaps in developing the country.
He congratulated ANGKASA Foundation for its achievements over the past two decades, particularly the ANGKASA Education Fund.
“I hope the students succeed in achieving the highest level of education and building successful careers in the future, contributing to the advancement, prosperity, and well-being of the country.”
