PENAMPANG: The essence of patriotism holds significant importance for every citizen within the nation. It transcends mere emotional expression, requiring profound comprehension and active engagement.

Patriotism is more than a mere sentiment; it necessitates cultivation and internalization due to its intertwined elements of belief, loyalty, citizenship, courage, independence, identity, and sovereignty.

Penampang Member of Parliament Datuk Ewon Benedick in launching the National Month Expression Event at ITCC here today called upon everyone to strive together to enliven the love for the country in celebrating National Day and Malaysia Day 2024.

"We must embrace our love for the country, respect each other, and strengthen unity among the people.

"I call upon all of us to play a role together in enlivening the love for the country and participating in the programmes that have been organised and planned leading up to the national month in August and September," he said.

"I am sure that each department has designed various programmes and played their roles in implementing independence programmes throughout this independence month," he stated.

Ewon who is also the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperative said, "As citizens, we should feel fortunate to be a part of a sovereign and independent country because we can experience life in a harmonious, peaceful, and prosperous environment."

Touching on the 1House 1Flag Campaign, he said it is a manifestation of unity and togetherness among Malaysians, especially the people of Sabah, in enhancing the spirit of patriotism and love for the country expressed through various methods and activities.

He urged citizens to ignite the spirit and respond to this campaign by flying the Malaysian flag at their business premises and residences.

"Worn-out flags should be replaced and not left unattended. Let's enhance our patriotic spirit by fulfilling this responsibility so that the warmth of this celebration can be felt magnificently throughout the country," he stressed.

The event was organised by Sabah Information Department and showcased booths of media such as RTM, FINAS and Post Malaysia among others. They were visited by the Minister who also spoke briefly at the RTM booth.
