KENINGAU: The Rafie Robert Taekwondo Championship 2025, held at SMK Gunsanad II Hall in Keningau, concluded yesterday with great fighting spirit and discipline, marking the successful completion of this prestigious state-level event.

The official closing ceremony was officiated by the Chairman of the Keningau Tourism and Culture Association, Rafie Datuk Robert, who also served as the championship’s patron. Present were Grandmaster Dr Rajah, President of Aelma Taekwondo Club and Chairman of the Organising Committee, along with officials, coaches, participants, parents, and supporters who filled the hall with enthusiasm and sportsmanship.

Adding excitement to the event, Rafie Robert performed a symbolic “board-breaking” act, representing courage and the indomitable spirit that defines Taekwondo.

The championship brought together 350 participants from various clubs across Sabah and Sarawak, showcasing intense competition throughout while maintaining strong discipline and fair play. Aelma Taekwondo Club, led by Master Erlie, emerged as the overall champion, followed by Aelma Taekwondo Club under Master Aling as runner-up, and another Aelma team led by Master Rostin in third place. Unique Kan Taekwondo Club secured fourth place, while other clubs such as Crocker Ranger Taekwondo, Chung Hwa Lawas Taekwondo Club, MTH Taekwondo Club, and Lawas Taekwondo Club also delivered impressive performances.

According to the organisers, the championship not only strengthened sporting spirit and discipline but also served as a key platform to nurture the next generation of Taekwondo athletes in Sabah and Sarawak.

The event concluded with a prize presentation, the giving of a token of appreciation to the championship patron, and a group photo session with the guest of honour, coaches, and participants.
