KOTA KINABALU: Tawau Hills Park is set to be enhanced as a sustainable Green Community Destination, with infrastructure upgrades aimed at improving visitor comfort and experience.

Sabah Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Datuk Jafry Ariffin said the initiative is in line with the state’s nature-based tourism agenda and reflects the Ministry’s commitment to strengthening eco-tourism attractions.

He said the main focus of the development will be the upgrading of infrastructure to improve comfort, safety and overall visitor experience.

This includes enhancements to family rest and recreational areas, as well as the introduction of more informative and interactive environmental interpretation elements.

“The improvements will ensure that Tawau Hills Park emerges as a comfortable, safe and inclusive green recreational space, capable of attracting more domestic and international visitors,” he said in a statement.

Jafry added that the development is also expected to generate positive economic spillover effects for the local community, including business and entrepreneurial opportunities, job creation, and reinforcing Tawau’s standing as a progressive green tourism destination.

He stressed that all initiatives would be carried out responsibly and guided by sustainability principles to ensure high impact for the people without compromising the natural environment.
