Tiong: Over 10,000 Travellers Welcomed at KLIA on First Day of Chinese New Year

SEPANG: Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture marked the first day of Chinese New Year by personally welcoming thousands of international visitors at (KLIA), describing the strong arrival numbers as a positive sign for Malaysia’s tourism momentum.


Accompanied by officials from the Ministry and , Tiong greeted travellers at KLIA Terminals 1 and 2 early this morning, extending festive wishes in a lively and welcoming atmosphere.


Between 6am and 8am, more than 6,800 travellers from 30 international cities arrived at KLIA Terminal 1. During the same period, KLIA Terminal 2 received over 3,200 travellers from 18 international destinations, with arrivals continuing steadily throughout the morning and into the afternoon.

Several early-morning flights from major cities in China were among those landing at the national gateway.


Tiong said the bustling activity reflected Malaysia’s strong international connectivity and the continued positive recovery of the tourism sector.


“Malaysia is a country where Chinese New Year traditions are preserved and passed down in their richness and authenticity. From festive rituals to the spirit of togetherness, this celebration is a cultural legacy shared across generations,” he said.


He added that incorporating festive elements into the airport reception aimed to ensure visitors experienced Malaysia’s cultural respect and warm hospitality from the moment they arrived.


The minister also expressed appreciation to representatives of international and China-based airline partners who participated in the celebration, including China Southern Airlines, Xiamen Airlines, China Eastern Airlines, Shenzhen Airlines, Shandong Airlines, Hainan Airlines, Juneyao Airlines, Qingdao Airlines, Sichuan Airlines, and Air China. This strong collaboration plays a vital role in strengthening regional connectivity and promoting two-way travel.


He noted that strong collaboration with airline partners plays a crucial role in enhancing regional connectivity and promoting two-way travel between Malaysia and key markets.


The welcoming programme featured traditional attire showcases, lion dance performances and appearances by the Visit Malaysia 2026 mascots, Wira and Manja, dressed in festive costumes, creating a distinctive and memorable arrival experience for guests.


As Malaysia steps into the Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign year, Tiong reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to enhancing the visitor journey from the first point of contact and positioning Malaysia not only as a travel destination but as a nation that respects tradition, embraces diversity and offers compelling reasons for repeat visits.


He also took the opportunity to wish all Malaysians and visitors a smooth and prosperous Year of the Horse, with success in every endeavour.
