BINTULU: Datuk Tiong King Sing State Assemblyman for Dudong, attended a certificate presentation ceremony today recognising the appointment of Community Leaders and Clan Heads (KMKK) in the Dudong and Bawang Assan areas.
During the event, Tiong who is also Bintulu Member of Parliament stressed the critical importance of ensuring that all community leader appointments are carried out through the decision of a legitimate Election Committee. He explained that this process guarantees fairness, transparency, and broad acceptance at the grassroots level.
He emphasised that this appointment system is an official government mechanism that must be respected by all stakeholders.

He further instructed that any appointment or support letters issued without following proper procedures or without going through an authorised election process should be withdrawn, in accordance with instructions from the Sibu Divisional Resident, Abang Mohamad Porkan, to safeguard the integrity and credibility of the system.
Tiong who is also the Minister of Tourism Arts and Culture stressed that the selection of community leaders must be based on the results of the vote and uphold the principle of majority rule.
He warned against overriding official decisions for personal or political reasons. Candidates who were unsuccessful in the head of household elections were advised not to demand the division of longhouses or question the process solely out of dissatisfaction with the results.
He urged all parties to act maturely, rationally, and with mutual respect to maintain community unity and harmony.
Furthermore, he reminded all those appointed to community leadership roles to understand the responsibilities and trust entrusted to them.
He stressed that these positions are a duty, not merely a title. Leaders must serve with commitment, prioritise the welfare of the community regardless of background or political affiliation, and avoid holding positions without genuine involvement.
The welfare of the community should always take precedence, and these roles must not be exploited for personal gain or political agendas.
The event was attended by the Resident, Bawang Assan Assemblyman Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh, the newly appointed Sibu District Officer Tsong Chow Choon, Sarawak Premier’s Political Secretary Joshua Ting Fu Ying, and other community leaders.
