KOTA KINABALU: The Gaya Campus Teacher Education Institute in Kota Kinabalu, in collaboration with the Sabah State Education Department, Special Olympics Malaysia (SOM), and Special Olympics Sabah (SOS), will be hosting the Touch of Love Carnival Programme on September 7.
The event, titled "Be Brave, Be My Hero," will take place at the Gaya Campus Teacher Education Institute at the state level in Sabah.
This programme, scheduled from 7 am to 2 pm, will feature the participation of teachers and 200 special education students from schools in Sabah. Various government agencies, local communities, and stakeholders in special education will also be involved through exhibitions and activities related to students and visitors.
The carnival will be held at the Auditorium Hall, with Dr. Gertrude Jock, Director of the Gaya Campus Teacher Education Institute, as the special guest.
The event will commence at 7:40 am with an aerobics session, followed by two heroes’ walks. The opening ceremony will be conducted by Dr. Gertrude Jock, followed by souvenir presentations and student performances, including a photography session.
Attendees will have the opportunity to visit exhibition booths, participate in a Treasure Hunt, and engage in various activities such as the Special Olympics Exhibition, Special Education Sector Exhibition by JPN Sabah, Teacher & Student Innovation Exhibition, Games Station, Mini Music Station, Dental Exhibition, Dental Treatment Station (for ID students only), Food Safety Exhibition, Blood Donation Station, and Entrepreneurship Booths.
A Forum on "Intellectual Disability (ID)" will be conducted by Dr. Ahmad Abdul Jalil Mohd Razali, a Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Specialist at UD54, Bukit Padang Hospital Mesra.
Muhamad Sufri Salim, the Head Assistant Director of the Special Education Sector at the Sabah State Education Department, and Annie Binijin, Representative of the Family Network at Special Olympics Sabah, will also be in attendance.
Additionally, talks on Special Olympics by Dr. Jiloris Julian F Dony, Chairman of Special Olympics Sabah, and on "WACANA: Women Concerned About Food Safety" by Firdaus Mohd Yusof, a Food Technology Officer at the Food Safety and Quality Unit of the Sabah State Health Department, will be presented during the event.
