KENINGAU: The Tourism Fest 2025 held at the Keningau Tourism Information Centre yesterday highlighted the district’s rich culture, heritage, and natural beauty while strengthening community involvement in the tourism sector.
Organised by the Keningau Tourism and Cultural Association in collaboration with Geomatika College Keningau Sabah and the Keningau Tourism Community Association, the festival ran from 7.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and featured various activities such as children’s colouring and costume contests, an arm wrestling competition, and an E-sports tournament.
Visitors also enjoyed exhibitions and sales of local tourism products, handicrafts, and handmade goods, reflecting the creativity and traditions of the local community.

Chairman of the Keningau Tourism and Cultural Association, Rafie Datuk Robert, said the success of tourism depends not only on beautiful destinations but also on the commitment of the people who maintain and promote them.
“Sustainable tourism must be driven by the local community, who play an active role in preserving and promoting our heritage and identity,” he said during the event’s opening ceremony.
He added that Tourism Fest 2025 serves as a platform to empower the community, boost the local economy, and showcase Keningau’s tourism potential at a higher level.
The festival, supported by several local agencies, will continue as an annual programme aimed at promoting tourism while fostering unity and pride among the people of Keningau.
