KOTA KINABALU: U Mobile, Malaysia’s newest 5G network provider, has strengthened its presence in Sabah through the expansion of its ULTRA5G experience. ULTRA5G now covers more areas in Kota Kinabalu, Tuaran, Beaufort, Kudat, and several other locations. Indoor ULTRA5G coverage is also available at key buildings such as Imago Mall and Kota Kinabalu International Airport, with more sites to follow.
As part of its 5G strategy, the telco is celebrating the wider availability of its ULTRA5G service in Sabah with a large-scale consumer music, food, and fashion festival called CARA U Sabah ULTRA5G Fest. Taking place from 6 to 8 February 2026 at Jetty DBKK, the three-day event will feature performances by both local and international artistes, alongside family-friendly activities such as a Karaoke Bus and ULTRA Pickleball.
A key highlight of the festival is the opportunity for attendees to experience the real-world differences of ULTRA5G speeds and innovations through showcases demonstrating what U Mobile’s next-generation 5G network can achieve with twice the capacity and lower latency. U Mobile will also host a dedicated booth where visitors can trial AI applications such as AI Wardrobe and AI Grooming.

With this latest milestone, the telco believes Sabahans will benefit from the expanded 5G network and enjoy the full advantages of the ULTRA5G experience. On the consumer front, U Mobile customers can expect higher quality connectivity with low latency, enabling crystal-clear video calls and ultra-smooth live streaming—even in high-traffic areas where coverage might be congested.
For enterprises and sectors such as retail, transport hubs, and public sector offices, seamless indoor ULTRA5G unlocks new digitalisation opportunities beyond mere connectivity. These include enterprise-grade services, IoT deployments, AI solutions, and cybersecurity capabilities that facilitate smarter building operations, improved customer service, and more efficient workflows for owners, tenants, and customers.
The company is eager to tailor its offerings to meet the diverse needs of businesses, providing not just connectivity but also 5G-related applications as part of a comprehensive enterprise strategy.
“U Mobile has been rapidly expanding our next-generation 5G network, and we are pleased to have further strengthened our presence in Sabah, supporting the state’s digital transformation and growth of its digital economy. With the increased availability of our ULTRA5G experience, we aim to enhance customer experiences while enabling Sabahans to seize digitalisation opportunities through 5G-AI applications, alongside enterprise-grade solutions and cybersecurity-safe services,” said Woon Ooi Yuen, Chief Technology Officer of U Mobile.
He added, “As a Malaysian company, we are also actively collaborating with local partners such as Celcom Timur Sabah for fibre backhaul, creating local jobs, fostering skills development, and driving business growth to benefit Sabahans as part of our ongoing rollout.”
As of January 2026, U Mobile has opened a new full-service retail store at Kompleks Karamunsing, offering personalised assistance, the latest devices, and access to its complete range of plans, including offerings tailored for East Malaysia, such as U Borneo Prepaid, U Borneo Postpaid, and U Home 5G Borneo.
