Unity and Cultural Exchange Through Music at National Charity Gala

KOTA KINABALU: The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Seri Panglima Christina Liew, has emphasised the unifying power of music and the importance of nurturing the younger generation during her keynote address at the National Singing Competition & Charity Gala in aid of Kian Kok Middle School Alumni Association.


Addressing an audience of distinguished guests, and dignitaries as well as attendeespl from across Peninsular Malaysia, Sarawak, and Sabah, the Minister said she was honoured to officiate the event as guest of honour, noting that the evening represented more than just entertainment.


“The significance of this evening extends beyond celebration and performance, it lies in the shared sense of responsibility and purpose that unites us,” she said.

Liew took the opportunity to commend Datuk Eliza Goh the organising committee for their dedication and precision in executing a high-calibre event. She praised the team’s professionalism and collaborative spirit, stating that their “pursuit of perfection and selfless contribution” had made the evening a success and set a benchmark for similar national events.


The Minister also acknowledged the competition’s inclusive approach, which welcomed participants aged 40 and above to perform on a national stage.


“This competition has clearly shown that music knows no age, and the stage belongs to all who dare to dream,” she said.


Liew also drew attention to the charity gala’s broader mission , using music as a vehicle to raise support for youth education across Malaysia.


She paid tribute to several key philanthropists whose contributions have made this cause possible, including Tan Sri Tiong Thai King, Tan Sri Paul Lim Pau Chang and Datuk Susan Wong Siew Guen from East Malaysia, along with Datuk Chan Kien Tat, Datuk Lim Kok Wing, and Mr Chan Ming San from Peninsular Malaysia.


“Your contributions represent a vital investment in our nation’s future. The potential of our youth must be nurtured through our collective action and guided with wisdom,” she said.


The Minister further highlighted the role of the gala in fostering cultural exchange between East and West Malaysia, saying that music continues to bridge divides and strengthen mutual understanding.


“Unity and inclusivity remain the cornerstones of our diverse nation’s continued prosperity,” she added.


In her closing remarks, Liew called on all attendees, participants, guests, and supporters alike, to recognise the impact of their involvement.


“Your participation is a powerful force in driving society forward. Let us continue to use music as a medium and compassion as our bridge, as we work together towards building a more united and prosperous Malaysia."


During the event, Liew presented a mock cheque for RM10,000 as a contribution from the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment to the Kian Kok Middle School Alumni Association, which was received by its President Terence Ting.
