KENINGAU: Efforts to strengthen and preserve the identity of the Dusun Gana community were given renewed momentum at the 2nd Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Gana Sabah Association (PGS), held at the Kampung Buang Sayang Community Hall here recently.
The AGM was officiated by Rafie Robert, Chairman of the Keningau Tourism and Culture Association, who highlighted the importance of unity and collective commitment in safeguarding the customs, language and traditions of the Dusun Gana, one of Sabah’s minority ethnic groups.
In his address, Rafie emphasised that preserving cultural heritage requires structured planning and strategic implementation to ensure it remains relevant and valued by both present and future generations.

“Unity and shared commitment are essential to ensuring that the customs and traditions of the Dusun Gana community continue to thrive,” he said. “With careful planning and impactful programmes, the community can be further strengthened and empowered.”
He also pledged his continued support for initiatives undertaken by PGS to advance the development and wellbeing of the Dusun Gana community across the state. In a show of confidence in the association’s leadership and direction, Rafie agreed to join PGS as a Life Member.
Among those present were the Director of the Sabah Native Customary School, Rozie Gitang; Chairman of the Bundu Liwan Association Keningau, Harry Gitik; and Deputy Chairman of Pertubuhan Murut Naabai Sabah, Fred V. Marukau.
The meeting was attended by members of the association’s leadership committee, general members and representatives of the local community, who expressed firm support for PGS’s plans and future direction in empowering the Dusun Gana people.
Rafie also conveyed his appreciation to the chairman and committee of PGS for the invitation and the trust placed in him to officiate at the association’s second AGM.
