PENAMPANG: The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) has reaffirmed its full commitment to Pakatan Harapan (PH) and clarified recent statements regarding the Moyog state seat.
In a statement today, UPKO Penampang stressed that the party remains a loyal and committed component of PH and fully supports the principle of consensus practised through the Presidential Council and formal seat negotiation mechanisms.
The party explained that its Deputy President Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin’s recent remarks should not be seen as a unilateral claim over the Moyog seat, but rather as a reflection of his readiness to serve the people if entrusted by the coalition.
“His statement reflects his dedication and willingness to serve the people of Moyog, where he has previously served with distinction,” the statement said.
UPKO highlighted its long-standing presence and strong grassroots engagement in Moyog, noting that the party has played a vital role in delivering development and empowering the local community through collaboration with PH components.
The party also stressed that while UPKO fully respects the formal PH processes, expressing aspirations to serve or contest is a democratic right and should not be misinterpreted.
“Leaders across PH have similarly voiced their intentions before seat allocations are finalised. Such expressions should be seen as part of democratic engagement, not defiance,” it added.
UPKO called on all parties within PH to remain united and focused on strengthening the coalition’s position to secure victory and ensure effective governance, particularly in safeguarding Sabah’s future.
