PAPAR: The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO), representing the Pakatan Harapan (PH) coalition, has announced its intention to compete for a seat in the Limbahau State Legislative Assembly (DUN) in the upcoming state election (PRN).

UPKO President Datuk Ewon Benedick stated that the matter would be discussed with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor, who is both a partner in the state government and an ally of PH.

"I officially wish to register UPKO's interest in contesting the Limbahau DUN seat, representing PH. I will present this proposition to the Chief Minister, as he is our partner in the state government and a fellow member of PH," said Ewon.

"In the previous election, the parliamentary seat was contested by DAP, one of the PH coalition parties. However, we are expressing our interest in contesting this seat in the Limbahau DUN through cooperation with the coalition parties," he added.

Ewon made these remarks during a press conference following the UPKO Zone D Convention (Papar, Kimanis, and Beaufort) held today at the Kg.Biau community Hall.

When asked about potential candidates, Ewon, who also serves as the Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, stated that the party had several individuals in mind to nominate.

"Regarding candidates, that is a secondary consideration at the moment. Our primary focus is to secure the seat," he explained.

In the 2020 State Election (PRN), the Limbahau seat was won by Datuk Juil Nuatim, who contested under the Parti Warisan ticket, with a majority of 2,523 votes.
