KOTA KINABALU: United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) Women’s Exco member, Ferlita Ubara, has called for the party to stand firm in using the UPKO flag and logo in the upcoming 17th Sabah State Election (PRN).

She said that adopting the UPKO flag is a crucial decision in strengthening the party’s political stance, identity of struggle, and continuity of grassroots efforts.

“The UPKO flag is a symbol of the struggle and identity of the people of Sabah. It reflects the party’s determination to champion the people’s rights without compromise. UPKO Women view this step as an absolute necessity, not merely a suggestion,” she stressed.

UPKO Women further emphasised that the party has long worked closely with the people while carrying the UPKO flag and logo as a strong mark of identity. Therefore, the continued use of this symbol in the 17th Sabah State Election is vital to demonstrate UPKO’s consistency in engaging with the people.

This view is also reinforced by grassroots women members, who regard the UPKO flag as a symbol of confidence and leadership in the people’s struggle.

Rosena Kuduas of UPKO Pekan Branch, Telupid, said, “The grassroots community has long recognised and accepted the UPKO flag as a symbol of struggle. Using another symbol would only create confusion.”

Meanwhile, Beatrice Tangilan of Kg. Malagatan Kecil, Tongod District, Kuamut, asserted, “For us, the UPKO logo is not just a symbol but proof of the party’s commitment and consistency. It is a clear sign that UPKO always stands with the people.”

Ferlita urged all leaders and members to unite under the UPKO flag, noting that the 17th Sabah State Election is a critical arena for the party to demonstrate its true strength to the people.
