UPKO Youth Endorses Datuk Donald Mojuntin for Moyog State Seat

PENAMPANG: United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (UPKO) Youth Penampang has thrown its support behind Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin as the party’s candidate for the Moyog state constituency in the upcoming Sabah state election.

UPKO Penampang Youth Chief, Billy Joe Dominic, said the election is expected to be called soon, with the official date to be announced by the Chief Minister. He reaffirmed UPKO’s commitment to contesting the polls in order to “offer the people the best choice.”

Billy Joe said the division had unanimously endorsed Donald to be considered by Pakatan Harapan and other political partners as the Moyog candidate.

“Donald is a seasoned leader with a proven track record and a clean leadership background. Moyog needs a representative with integrity, not one who misuses their position to exploit municipal projects,” he said.

He added that UPKO wants leaders who practise inclusive governance, similar to Penampang Member of Parliament (MP) Datuk Ewon Benedick, and who treat civil servants as partners in solving the people’s problems rather than adversaries to be criticised.

According to Billy Joe, the decision was made in the long-term interests of Moyog residents, noting that the constituency deserves a state assemblyman with strong prospects of being appointed to the Sabah Cabinet.

“Given the current political landscape, it is unlikely that any one party will form the government alone. In such circumstances, ministerial posts are usually given to party presidents or deputy presidents.

As UPKO’s Deputy President and a former Deputy Minister, Donald stands a strong chance of being appointed as a full minister. This would bring significant benefits to Moyog in terms of development and resources,” he explained.

Billy Joe expressed hope that ongoing negotiations with Pakatan Harapan and other allies would proceed smoothly and produce results favourable to the people of Moyog.
