SANDAKAN: Vision Primary School Sandakan has achieved a significant milestone by securing the Best Poster Award at Science Castle Singapore 2026, held on 15 April at the Woodlands Library, Singapore.
Science Castle, an Asia-wide platform established in Osaka, Japan, is traditionally tailored for secondary and high school students. Given this, the participation and victory of the team from Vision Primary represent an exceptional achievement.
Competing against older students from across Southeast Asia, the team impressed the judging panel with their research project titled, "Is Swiftlet Guano a Sustainable Alternative to NPK 15–15–15 in Mitigating Chemical Runoff in Crops?"

The project explored environmentally sustainable farming solutions and demonstrated a sophisticated scientific understanding combined with real-world relevance.
Dr Harish Handral, one of the judges, praised the team as "eloquent, well-spoken and confident," noting their ability to handle complex questions clearly and demonstrate a deep grasp of their research.
The team, guided by their advisor Jennifer Lee, comprised four Year 4 pupils: Mavis Hon Shi Ya, Look Tze Shen, Hannah Chen Yi Thong, and Asher Tsang Huan Le .
"This achievement reflects our commitment to nurturing critical thinking and a passion for inquiry among our students," said Thien Lee Yee, the school’s head teacher.
