KUALA LUMPUR: Sport is not only about improving physical fitness, but also serves as a platform for discovering cities, appreciating culture and exploring tourism destinations, said Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing.

He said this after officiating the flag-off of the Visit Malaysia 2026 Run together with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The event drew about 5,000 participants from various age groups, races and countries, creating a lively and energetic atmosphere.

The run was jointly organised by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Tourism Malaysia and Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL), reflecting the government’s continued commitment to promoting Malaysia as a tourism destination that offers diverse attractions while encouraging a healthy, active and sustainable lifestyle.

Tiong expressed hope that more running events showcasing local uniqueness, cultural elements and tourism routes would be introduced in the future.

He said such initiatives could serve as a strategic platform to boost the tourism sector, while enhancing tourism experiences to be more meaningful, inclusive and impactful.
