VMY2026 kicks off Nationwide

KOTA KINABALU: Today marks the official launch of Malaysia’s nationwide campaign to promote Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026), with the Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC), Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, accompanied by officials and representatives from Tourism Malaysia, welcoming arrivals and distributing gift bags at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KKIA) in Sepang.
During the event, guests were entertained with cultural performances and enjoyed a special appearance by the VMY2026 mascots. The celebration highlighted a lively and colourful scene, promising visitors a wealth of fascinating sights and attractions across Malaysia.
Sabah and Sarawak are also putting in their efforts to attract international tourists. Both states launched their campaigns with a series of vibrant events at key entry points, showcasing their rich natural heritage and cultural diversity.

In Sabah, the Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Environment, Datuk Jafry Ariffin, officiated the arrival ceremony for the earliest visitors under the state-level VMY2026 initiative.
The event signalled Sabah’s commitment to boosting international tourism, highlighting its renowned natural attractions and biodiversity. Jafry emphasised Sabah’s unique strengths, noting UNESCO recognition for Mount Kinabalu and the Crocker Range, as well as Sukau, which continue to draw global attention.
Sabah is targeting 4 million arrivals during the VMY2026 duration.

Meanwhile, in Sarawak, the Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, welcomed tourists at Kuching International Airport.
Guests were greeted by traditional dress porters from Sarawak and the official VMY2026 mascot, the sun bear, symbolising the campaign’s focus on conservation and natural beauty.
Both states have designated several key entry points for this year’s celebrations. In Sarawak, these include five land entry Points, Sungai Tujuh, Tebedu, Tedungan, Pandaruan, and Biawak, alongside four air entry points at Kuching, Sibu, Miri, and Bintulu.
These locations will host special events and activities throughout the campaign period.
Across the country, other states have also inaugurated their celebrations. Malaysia boasts 55 entry points, each offering its own unique showcase to warmly welcome arrivals and tourists alike.
