KUALA LUMPUR: Volvo Car Malaysia today marked a historic milestone with the official debut of the Volvo ES90, the brand’s first fully electric sedan. Assembled locally in Shah Alam, the ES90 is more than just a new model; it’s a bold statement of intent, redefining premium mobility with Scandinavian elegance, next-generation safety features, and seamless connectivity.
Available for viewing at all authorised dealerships nationwide from today, the Volvo ES90 is priced from RM339,888. To reward early adopters joining this exciting new chapter, the launch offers a 2% early-bird incentive, strictly limited to the first 100 units booked by 31 March 2026.
Chris Wailes, Managing Director of Volvo Car Malaysia and Thailand, expressed his enthusiasm: “For 60 years, Volvo has been part of the Malaysian journey. Today, we turn a new page with the launch of the ES90. This is the car for the driver who seeks a perfect balance, combining the commanding presence of a premium sedan with the sustainability and performance of our latest electric technology. It is locally assembled, globally class-leading, and designed to look after you in a way only Volvo can.”
The Volvo ES90 is crafted to be a sanctuary on wheels. Combining the versatility of a fastback with the spaciousness of an SUV, it offers generous legroom and a refined interior that feels like a ‘living room’ thanks to Scandinavian design principles. Beneath its sleek exterior lies Volvo’s most advanced 800-volt architecture, enabling Malaysian drivers to enjoy less waiting and more driving, with the ES90 capable of charging from 10 to 80 per cent in approximately 22 minutes using a 350 kW DC fast charger. On a full charge, it boasts a WLTP range of up to 651 km, providing confidence for interstate journeys from Kuala Lumpur to Penang or Johor Bahru without concern over range.
From its profile, the ES90 immediately exudes confidence with a distinctive stance. Its slightly elevated ride height offers a commanding view of the road, while the flowing roofline balances elegant proportions with interior space and aerodynamics, enhancing efficiency and driving range. The front features Volvo’s signature Thor’s Hammer LED headlights, creating a modern yet familiar identity, while the rear showcases new C-shaped LED tail lamps and rear window lighting that form a unique welcome and farewell sequence.
Customers can select from four striking colours: Vapour Grey, Crystal White, Denim Blue, and Onyx Black. Practicality is further enhanced by a large, wide tailgate hatch, providing effortless access to the boot, which offers up to 424 litres of space—expandable to 904 litres with the rear seats folded. A 27-litre front luggage compartment also offers a handy space for charging cables.
Inside, the focus is on premium comfort, authentic materials, and purpose-driven design—true to Volvo’s Scandinavian roots. The generous 3.1-metre wheelbase ensures ample second-row legroom, creating a spacious environment for all occupants. Six curated ambient lighting themes heighten the sensory experience, complemented by ventilated Nordico upholstery in Charcoal, offering a modern, sustainable touch.
A panoramic electrochromic glass roof provides up to 99.9 per cent UV protection, with the ability to adjust transparency at the touch of a button for glare reduction and privacy. Climate comfort is further elevated by a four-zone system with an advanced air purifier capable of filtering out up to 95 per cent of PM2.5 particles and removing 99.9 per cent of pollen, grass, and other allergens.
The ES90 also excels in acoustic comfort, with ultra-low noise levels that make it one of Volvo’s quietest cabins. The premium Bowers & Wilkins sound system features 25 high-fidelity speakers delivering 1,610 watts of immersive audio, enhanced by Dolby Atmos® and an exclusive Abbey Road Studios mode that recreates the acoustics of the legendary London recording space.
The Volvo ES90 is powered by the NVIDIA DRIVE AGX Orin platform, capable of performing trillions of operations per second. This core computer processes data from cameras and radars to create a 360-degree safety shield around the vehicle. Built on Volvo’s innovative Superset technology, the ES90 benefits from regular over-the-air updates, ensuring continual improvements in energy efficiency, infotainment, and safety features.
The vehicle’s new-generation infotainment system with Google built-in includes Google Maps, Google Assistant, and access to a wide variety of apps via Google Play. Powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon® Cockpit Platform with 5G connectivity, the system provides a seamless experience across the 9-inch driver display, head-up display, and 14.5-inch centre touchscreen.
For manoeuvring in tight spaces, the ES90 is equipped with a 3D surround view system supported by a 360-degree camera. Its lightweight 800-volt architecture improves overall efficiency and performance, enabling a 0-100 km/h acceleration in just 6.6 seconds, blending refinement with dynamic responsiveness.
The Volvo ES90 exemplifies Volvo Cars’ dedication to sustainability. Beyond its advanced battery technology, the model incorporates extensive use of recycled and natural materials. Twenty-nine per cent of all aluminium and 18 per cent of steel are recycled, while 16 per cent of polymers and bio-based materials are also used. Interior wood panels are sourced from FSC-certified suppliers, contributing to lower CO₂ emissions during manufacturing.
True to Volvo’s heritage, the ES90 is designed to prioritise safety for everyone inside and around the vehicle. Developed to meet Volvo’s rigorous safety standards, built on over 55 years of real-world research, the ES90 features a robust safety cage, advanced restraint systems, and optimised deformation zones. Its comprehensive sensor suite, comprising five radars, seven cameras, and twelve ultrasonic sensors, provides a 360-degree vision to help prevent accidents.
The car also includes Volvo’s driver understanding system, which monitors driver attentiveness and intervenes when necessary. When parked, a door-opening alert helps protect pedestrians and cyclists by warning occupants before doors are opened, exemplifying Volvo’s commitment to creating a safer environment for all.
