KOTA KINABALU: Women throughout Sabah, including those in rural and remote areas, are encouraged to contact the Ministry of Women, Health and Community Wellbeing Sabah (KWKKR) to obtain support and assistance related to various issues.

The KWKKR Minister, Datuk Julita Majungki, stated that the ministry is always open to women who need help, guidance or support in addressing the challenges they face.

Julita said the Sabah Women’s Affairs Department (JHEWA), which falls under the ministry, plays an important role in managing women’s affairs and implementing various women empowerment programmes.

She noted that numerous initiatives have been carried out over the past few years, including leadership development programmes, entrepreneurship initiatives and family wellbeing programmes aimed at strengthening women’s roles in society.

According to her, the department also provides various forms of support services, including free legal aid for women facing family issues but unable to afford legal services.

“Women in urban or rural areas should have equal access to support and assistance. If there are any issues or matters they wish to raise with the state government, they are most welcome to contact the ministry or department,” she said when officiating the dinner reception in conjunction with Women’s Day celebrations organised by the Women’s Section of the Federation of Chinese Associations Sabah (FCAS) at the Hakka Hall here on Sunday.

At the same time, Julita emphasised that the ministry is not limited to any specific community group but serves the entire population of Sabah.

“The ministry that I lead today was actually established some time ago; however, in this term, the state government has decided to rename it the Ministry of Women, Health and Community Wellbeing to more clearly reflect its focus and responsibilities.

“And this ministry is not just for one community group. It is a ministry for all the people of Sabah, and we welcome anyone who wishes to contact us regarding women’s affairs, health and community wellbeing,” she said.

Julita stated that KWKKR now oversees three main areas, women, health and community wellbeing, each playing a crucial role in ensuring the welfare of the people is continuously safeguarded.

She added that the government will continue to strengthen cooperation with community organisations, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the private sector to ensure efforts to empower women are continuously reinforced.

Also present were FCAS President Tan Sri TC Goh and Head of FCAS Women’s Section Haw Yong Sai.
