KOTA KINABALU: The theme for International Women’s Day 2026, “Give to Gain,” encapsulates a reality that many women experience daily, said Datuk Jannie Lasimbang Chairwoman of Wanita Pakatan Harapan Sabah Women and International Secretary of DAP Women Malaysia.
In a statement released in conjunction with the international women's day, she said women make vital yet often unseen contributions to the stability and wellbeing of families and communities.
She said, mothers dedicate their time and energy to raising children and shaping the values that guide future generations. Single mothers shoulder responsibilities typically shared by two, while new mothers adapt to demanding new roles alongside caring for their infants.

"Working mothers juggle their professional commitments while ensuring their families are supported and cared for."
"Such responsibilities demand discipline, resilience, and sound judgement. While these qualities may not always be labelled as leadership, they are the very attributes that uphold families and sustain communities," she shared.
This same dedication is evident among women serving in politics and public life, Jannie said adding that public leadership often requires sacrifice; women in politics frequently relinquish privacy, personal time, and precious moments with their families to serve the public interest.
"They work under constant scrutiny and high expectations, all while remaining focused on decisions that impact people's lives."
This embodies the essence of “Give to Gain”, she shared. When women contribute their experience, judgement, and leadership, society benefits from more representative and balanced decision-making.
To strengthen women’s leadership at the community level, PACOS, in collaboration with Touching Lives Club (TLC) Sabah and Service Khidmat DAP Penampang, organised a Leadership Training programme on 6 and 7 March 2026 at Dewan Balbina Sabinti, Kampung Kivatu, Penampang.
"This annual initiative aims to enhance leadership skills among women within the community. The sessions are designed to boost confidence, improve communication, foster problem-solving abilities, and help women recognise their potential as leaders within their families, villages, and organisations."
Participants who have previously attended have found the programme practical and impactful, as it addresses real community challenges and provides tools that can be applied directly in their daily leadership roles. Such programmes are vital in ensuring women continue to develop as capable decision-makers and community leaders.
"On this special day, I would like to wish a Happy International Women’s Day to all women, and to acknowledge the numerous ways in which women contribute to the strength and progress of our communities."
