KOTA KINABALU: Kota Kinabalu Division's UPKO Women Chief Rowindy Lawrence has slammed local ophthalmologist slash motivational speaker Datuk Prof Dr Muhaya Mohamad for saying that women should not be high-achieving
"I do not agree when Prof Dr Muhaya said women do not need to 'drive and achieve so much, and be very independent'.
"Women should be allowed to achieve and pursue their dreams, and it's okay to be independent," she told Nabalu News today.
According to Rowindy who is a Member of the Highest Council representing women of younger generation, she said female public figures should instead empower young women and not buoy them up to be weak or act dumb.
She reasoned that women should embrace their true selves while still carry out their responsibilities in respecting their husbands at the same time.
"As a professor, she should have chosen more appropriate sentences so that the right messages can be conveyed to our young women.
"If a woman possesses a higher rank, I believe that with her 'intelligence', she will still respect her husband at home."
"If every woman follows Prof Dr Muhaya's advice, then there will be fewer professional women. She herself has achieved the 'Professor' title," she added.
Rowindy further commented that "jodoh" (destiny) is in God's hands and there is no need for women to be "fake" when it comes to looking for their "jodoh".
"If every partner accepts their partner's strengths and weaknesses before they settle down, why must we teach our children to be 'fake'?
She also mentioned that "gender equality" is listed in one of the 17 Global Goals, or officially known as the Sustainable Development Goals.
These goals have the power to create a better world by 2030, by ending poverty, fighting inequality and addressing the urgency of climate change.
Muhaya in her video titling "Kenapa Wanita Lambat Dapat Jodoh" went viral and received backlashes from netizens for saying women who are too driven and independent have high testosterone levels.
