KOTA KINABALU: Eleven youth have successfully completed an eight-month hospitality training programme under the Hospitality Engagement Learning Programme (HELP), a collaboration between the Sabah Human Resource Development Department (JPSM) and Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL).

The trainees received hands-on practical training in housekeeping, front office operations, and environmental sustainability, as well as culinary skills in the food and beverage department.

This programme aims to equip Sabah's youth with the skills and knowledge necessary for success in the growing post-COVID-19 hospitality industry.

The programme took place from March 1 to October 31, culminating in a graduation ceremony held recently at a local hotel.

Celestina Aron, the JPSM Director, was represented by Regina Sikain, Administrative Officer of the Skills Training Sponsorship Section, and Khairul Safwan, Assistant Training Officer. BRL was represented by Abd Sail Jamaludin, Director of Operations, and Bernard Majawai, Human Resource Manager.

The top trainee for this batch was Stephelin Helson from the Food and Beverage Department.

Additionally, three trainees received recognition for their outstanding reports mainly Clarissa Chong from Environmental Sustainability, Nur Saffiatul Kuzaidah Jakarula from the Front Office Department, and Nur Fazillah Abdullah.

This attachment programme serves as an effective recruitment method for identifying potential talents.

It reduces the high turnover rate in the hospitality industry, thus developing public awareness among locals regarding career opportunities and developing the Sabah workforce.
