KOTA KINABALU: The 15th Malaysian ASEAN Mount Kinabalu Climb 2026, High Altitude Training Programme was officially launched today at Shangri-La Tanjung Aru, bringing together 75 participants, including international climbers, in a regional initiative promoting high-altitude mountaineering safety, adventure tourism, and cross-border collaboration.

Organised by Global Expedition Club (GEC), the programme runs from 30 May to 2 June 2026 at Mount Kinabalu, one of Southeast Asia's premier climbing destinations.

The annual event continues to strengthen Sabah's position as a leading hub for high-altitude training and adventure tourism in the ASEAN region.

The programme provides participants with practical exposure to altitude acclimatisation, risk management, climbing safety, and the prevention of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS).

Conducted in collaboration with Sabah Parks, the programme also serves as a platform to test and validate the High Altitude Climbing Training Module and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) developed by Global Expedition Training Sdn Bhd, further strengthening Mount Kinabalu's role as a regional centre for high- altitude training.

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment Sabah, Datuk Jafry Ariffin, who officiated the

programme, commended GEC for its commitment to promoting outdoor education, climbing safety, and adventure tourism development in Sabah.

"Programmes such as the Malaysian-ASEAN Mount Kinabalu Climb play a significant role in

strengthening Sabah's position as a world-class destination for adventure tourism and high-altitude training while promoting knowledge-sharing, international collaboration, and responsible mountaineering practices," he said.

GEC President Mr. Ravichandran said the programme provides an important platform for learning, preparation, and regional engagement among climbers from diverse backgrounds.

As the event celebrates its 15th edition, the Malaysian-ASEAN Mount Kinabalu Climb continues to advance mountaineering excellence, safety awareness, and sustainable tourism development in Malaysia and across the ASEAN region.

Global Expedition Club extends its appreciation to all sponsors, partners, and supporting organisations, including Sabah Parks, Sabah Tourism Board, Tourism Malaysia, Ascend Secretarial, Ascend Dynamic, Himalaya Sport, Brooks, Gmat, Variety Scores, Blackmores, Kinabalu Heritage Tour, Ming Garden, Prime, HyperGear, Sports Paragon, Toread, Sinano, Matahari Outdoor, Globaler2u, Amazing Borneo, Sutera Sanctuary Lodges, Fitbar and other valued partners for their contribution towards the success of the programme.
