KOTA KINABALU: The Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (MOTAC) approved 3,172 applications for the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) programme last year, unlocking an estimated RM3.875 billion in economic value for the nation, Minister Datuk Tiong King Sing stated.
Speaking on aggressive global promotion efforts for Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VM2026) and MM2H throughout 2025, Tiong highlighted intensified marketing in key source markets, driving higher visitor numbers from regions including ASEAN, the Middle East, Europe, China, and Australia.
He personally led missions to 19 cities across 11 countries, officiating MM2H launches, supporting familiarisation trips, and engaging industry leaders.
"This sustained visibility has delivered clear results," he said, citing an 11% surge in Australian arrivals to nearly 497,000, plus 15.3% growth from Switzerland and 32.6% from Poland.
The economic boost stems from core requirements for approved applicants: fixed deposits totalling RM2.35 billion in Malaysian banks, residential property purchases worth RM1.51 billion, and RM13.86 million in participation fees.
Breakdown of approvals includes 46 Platinum, 154 Gold, 2,650 Silver, and 322 Special Economic/Financial Zone categories, enabling 9,038 participants to join.
Tiong affirmed MOTAC's commitment to sustaining momentum for national tourism growth.
