KOTA KINABALU: The bold stand by Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Ewon Benedick, urging the Attorney General’s Chambers (AGC) not to appeal the High Court’s decision on Sabah’s 40 per cent revenue entitlement, was commended by Pro-GRS political activist Aksyah Haji Nasrah.

Aksyah said the AGC’s intention to appeal against the ruling was tantamount to denying Sabah’s position as an equal partner in the formation of Malaysia.

He stressed that the High Court’s decision in favour of the Sabah Law Society (SLS) was fully consistent with the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the revenue-sharing principles agreed upon when Sabah joined the Federation.

“If the AGC proceeds with the appeal, it would be akin to denying Sabah’s rightful status as a partner in Malaysia, a state that has significantly contributed to the Federation’s revenue since 1963,” he said in a statement today.

Aksyah commended Ewon’s courage and leadership, describing his stance as a reflection of genuine concern for Sabah’s rights and fiscal justice.

“I am deeply moved and fully support Datuk Ewon Benedick’s courageous announcement and stand on this matter,” he said.

He added that Sabah rightfully deserves to be reimbursed for the outstanding revenue share that has not been channelled to the state for nearly 48 years.

Aksyah also urged the Federal Government to honour its financial obligations under MA63, saying that Sabah’s natural resources have long sustained the national economy.

“It must be remembered that Sabah’s natural wealth has greatly benefited this nation. Therefore, the long-overdue 40 per cent revenue entitlement under MA63 must be paid as soon as possible,” he asserted.

He said the reimbursement would not only restore fiscal fairness to Sabah but also accelerate the state’s development to be on par with Sarawak and Peninsular Malaysia.

“The overwhelming support from Sabahans for the High Court’s decision must be recognised and respected as a true reflection of Sabah’s rightful status as an equal partner in this nation,” he concluded.
