All village matters should be referred to JKKK not JKDM

KOTA KINABALU: All state government officials in Sabah, especially the Mayor of the City Hall, the President of the Municipal Council, District Officers, and officials of the District Council, are advised not to entertain the whims of the Chairman and Secretary of the Jawatankuasa Kemajuan Desa Madani (JKDM) in Sabah, which was recently established.
In a statement, Datuk Zulkarnain Mahdar, the Chairman of Gerakan Kuasa Rakyat Malaysia (G57), said that the Sabah State Government has clearly rejected the establishment of JKDM, which was recently launched by Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi in Sabah. Therefore, any activities by the Chairman or Secretary of JKDM should not be entertained.
According to him, all issues that arise at the village level or in any area should be addressed through the Jawatankuasa Kemajuan dan Keselamatan Kampung (JKKK) or the Unit Pemimpin Pembangunan Masyarakat (UPPM) appointed by the state government.
He emphasized that the Rural Administration Ordinance, which was previously passed in the Sabah State Legislative Assembly, recognizes only one village administration, which is JKKK appointed by the state government.
To avoid overlapping development requests at the village level, it is advisable for all applications to go through the JKKK or UPPM.
Zulkarnain expressed his disappointment with the Ministry of Rural Development and Federal Territories, led by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Zahid Hamidi, for seemingly neglecting the Sabah state government led by Datuk Seri Hajiji Haji Noor.
He stated that the Sabah State Government has established the Ministry of Rural Development Sabah, which should be fully utilized to channel federal allocations for the development of infrastructure in Sabah.
Zulkarnain also mentioned that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim himself fully supports the leadership of Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor as the Chief Minister of Sabah, and therefore Zahid should look ahead and not mix issues of people's development with party matters.
He concluded that the people and the state government have clearly rejected the establishment of JKDM as it is in clear violation of the laws and is seen as treating Sabah as an opposition state.
Therefore, all state government officials in Sabah should not entertain any requests or matters brought up by the Chairman or Secretary of JKDM, as the establishment of JKDM is clearly wrong and contrary to the laws in Sabah, he stated.
