KOTA KINABALU: Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (MEDC), Datuk Ewon Benedick, today led a Bank Rakyat delegation on a courtesy call to the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah, Tun Datuk Seri Panglima Haji Musa Aman, at Istana Seri Kinabalu.
Joining the visit were Bank Rakyat’s Chief Executive Officer, Ahmad Shahril Mohd Shariff, senior officials of the bank, and representatives of the Sabah Islamic Religious Council (MUIS).
During the visit, Bank Rakyat handed over zakat contributions totalling more than RM1.7 million to MUIS, an increase from RM1.3 million the previous year.
Ewon said the rise in zakat contributions reflected Bank Rakyat’s positive growth.
“I am confident this contribution will continue to increase in the coming years in line with Bank Rakyat’s plans in the state.
At the same time, I encourage the people of Sabah to utilise Bank Rakyat’s services, as part of its profits are channelled back to the community in the form of zakat and other assistance,” he told reporters after the visit.
Ewon also expressed his appreciation to Tun Musa for his continuous support of MEDC and its agencies in fostering entrepreneurship and cooperatives in Sabah.
Bank Rakyat, under the Ministry, serves as a key financing agency for entrepreneurship and personal development, playing a vital role in supporting economic growth through entrepreneurs and cooperatives nationwide.
