KUALA LUMPUR: Batik Air will launch its first international route from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang (SZB) on 28 July, marking a major milestone in its efforts to transform the city airport into a vibrant regional hub.

In a statement on Monday, the airline said it will operate daily flights to Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport (DMK) and, simultaneously launch daily services to Kuching International Airport (KCH) on the same sate, further boosting domestic connectivity from Subang.

Batik Air Chief Executive Officer Datuk Chandran Rama Muthy said the launch marks a new phase where travellers can fly closer to the city while enjoying improved regional connectivity.

“We are proud to be at the forefront of Subang’s transformation into a modern, city-based hub. Bangkok is just the beginning.

“Subang offers a smart, time-saving alternative to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and we believe it will play an increasingly important role in the future of Malaysian aviation. With Subang, we are bringing the world closer to the Klang Valley,” he said.

The airline noted that the airport’s strategic location near Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, and Shah Alam makes it a convenient choice for Klang Valley residents seeking faster and easier access to air travel.

“These new routes will also boost inbound tourism by providing easier access for travellers from Thailand and East Malaysia to Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, which offer a wide range of attractions, from royal heritage sites and theme parks to ecotourism and gastronomy,” the airline said.

With the addition of Bangkok and Kuching, Batik Air will now serve five destinations from Subang Airport, alongside its existing routes to Penang, Kota Bharu, and Kota Kinabalu.
