KENINGAU: The chairman of the Bingkor Welfare Association Yazid Mohd Hasnan Tawik @ Charles, described Sabah Electricity (SE) Keningau’s open approach and willingness to visit the ground to explain the recent surge in electricity bills as a positive step that could ease public concern.
He said his meeting with SE officers recently allowed members of the public to understand the issue properly and enabled the utility to hear customers’ views and complaints firsthand.
The three SE officers present were CERA Manager Joyce Kabinchong; Customer Service Executive Marhana Mohd Shukur; and Customer Relations Officer representing SE Retail Division (CERA) Keningau, Jacqueline Chong.
According to Yazid, the discussion, held in a friendly and spirited atmosphere of camaraderie, was much appreciated because SE provided direct explanations on issues that had been widely discussed by the public, including on social media.
“This kind of on‑the‑ground approach is very good because the public can obtain accurate information and understand the real situation regarding electricity bills,” he said in a media statement.
At the meeting, he also suggested that SE management continue to strengthen its field engagement and be more responsive to issues affecting the public.
He said direct communication with the community is more effective in ensuring information is conveyed clearly and comprehensively.
Yazid also expressed his appreciation to Sabah Electricity’s Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Ir. Ts. Mohd Yaakob Jaafar, for initiating a press conference to explain the surge in electricity bills.
He hoped the measure would help the public understand the factors behind the bill increases and reduce confusion among consumers.
Meanwhile, Yazid urged the people of Sabah to continue supporting the state government led by the Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, and to cooperate with Sabah Electricity in efforts to improve service quality for the benefit of the state’s residents.
