KOTA KINABALU: The Borneo Rainforest Lodge (BRL) has achieved its Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC) Certification, reinforcing its status as a leader in sustainable tourism.
This achievement follows a comprehensive audit conducted in September 2024, during which BRL demonstrated its commitment to environmental conservation, cultural heritage, and community engagement by meeting the GSTC’s rigorous standards.
BRL Chief Executive Officer Freddie Coleman received the certificate from Danny Ng, General Manager of Vireo Sustainable Certification Sdn Bhd, in a brief presentation ceremony attended by Sabah Tourism Board (STB) Chief Executive Officer Julinus Jimit at the STB office.
Julinus expressed enthusiasm for promoting BRL, Imbak Canyon, and Maliau Basin as part of a new travel initiative dubbed the ‘Golden Triangle of Borneo’ at the World Travel Market London 2025.
This certification further cements BRL’s position as a pioneer in ecotourism, providing travelers with authentic and sustainable experiences.
Also in attendance were BRL’s Operation Manager Abd Sail Jamaluddin, Training Manager Jill Justine, and Executive Conservationist Abigale Bernard.
BRL, a subsidiary of the Sabah Foundation Group of Companies, is nestled in the heart of Danum Valley, one of the world’s oldest rainforests located in Lahad Datu.
