KOTA BELUD: The construction of the Sidang Injil Borneo (SIB) Church in Kampung Sayap, which began in 2016 with a total cost of approximately RM1.52 million, is now fully completed.
Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, who is also the State Assemblywoman for Kadamaian, Datuk Ewon Benedick, stated that with the completion of the new church, the Christmas celebration for the villagers, especially those celebrating Christmas this year, will be more significant.
"In my opinion, the construction of places of worship like this is a clear representation of the practice of religious freedom in our country, especially in the Borneo region, which needs to be preserved and maintained," he said.
He said this during his speech at the inauguration ceremony of the SIB Church in Kg.Sayap, here, today.
Ewon also praised the church leadership's efforts in fundraising and the spirit of mutual cooperation to ensure the completion of the church construction.
"When I was chosen to represent this area in 2018, one of the first things I did was allocate funds to improve the road leading to this church to facilitate the transportation of construction materials to this building.
"After that, I also visited here and made a contribution to the construction of this church. I believe that the contribution, to some extent, can help alleviate the church's financial burden," he said.
He also supported the church leadership's efforts to plan and improve the church facilities.
"Besides serving as a place of worship, this church building will undoubtedly be a focal point for visitors, especially church members who engage in various religious activities," he said.
He stated that in addition to the church construction in the Kadamaian area, infrastructure development such as roads and other facilities also received attention.
