KOTA KINABALU: Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu celebrated the upcoming Aidilfitri festivities with a special cake presentation to Sabah’s Head of State, Tun Datuk Seri Panglima (Dr) Musa Aman, as a gesture of festive goodwill and celebration.

Inspired by the elegance of Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu, also known as the Likas Mosque, this year’s Raya cake pays homage to one of Sabah’s most iconic landmarks.

The mosque, chosen as the central theme of the design, symbolises harmony, faith, and unity within the community, values that resonate deeply with the spirit of Hari Raya.

The cake’s design captures the beauty of the mosque surrounded by water and landscape, symbolising peace, reflection, and togetherness during the festive season.

More than just a culinary masterpiece, the creation celebrates gratitude and Sabah’s rich cultural heritage.

Flavoured with pandan and infused with onde-onde elements, the cake showcases familiar local flavours that evoke warmth and nostalgia, adding a meaningful Sabah touch to the celebration.

Measuring 70 centimetres by 70 centimetres and weighing 50 kilograms, the intricate cake was handcrafted over a week by the hotel’s culinary team.

To bring this vision to life, the team used 12 kilograms of eggs, 12 kilograms of flour, 11.8 kilograms of brown sugar, 13 kilograms of butter, 12 kilograms of custard cream, 11 kilograms of icing sugar, 300 grams of cornflour, 2 kilograms of desiccated coconut, 1.4 kilograms of gula Melaka, 5 kilograms of whipping cream, 12 tins of condensed milk, 360 grams of baking powder, and 2 kilograms of ground almonds.

This festive gesture exemplifies Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu’s commitment to celebrating local culture and fostering meaningful moments within the community, while honouring the significance of Aidilfitri through creativity, craftsmanship, and heartfelt hospitality.

“Through this special Raya cake, we aim to honour both the spirit of Aidilfitri and Sabah’s cultural identity. Inspired by Masjid Bandaraya Kota Kinabalu, the cake embodies harmony, reflection, and unity, values especially meaningful during this festive season. We hope this creation conveys warm Hari Raya wishes while celebrating our shared heritage and community,” said Suresh Ramasamy, General Manager of Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu.

As families and communities prepare to welcome Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Le Méridien Kota Kinabalu extends its warmest festive greetings and best wishes for a joyous celebration filled with peace, gratitude, and togetherness.
