KOTA KINABALU: Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick welcomes the cooperation between his ministry and the state government in an effort to further strengthen the small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and cooperatives sector in Sabah.

He said the collaboration was in line with his desire to give additional focus to Sabah and Sarawak to develop the SMEs sector without affecting the existing focus in his ministry.

"To achieve that goal, I have proposed to the state government that a Sabah Entrepreneurship Development Coordination Committee be established to coordinate all programs related to entrepreneurship development implemented by various ministries in Sabah.

"The establishment of this committee, which involves all federal and state agencies involved in the development of entrepreneurship in Sabah, has been approved by the state government and chaired by myself and Sabah Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship Minister Datuk Phoong Jin Zhe.

"I hope the establishment of the entrepreneurship development coordination committee achieves its goal," he said in a media statement, here, today.

He said in response to the speech of the President of Sabah, Tun Juhar Mahiruddin during the Opening Ceremony of the Fifth Term of the 16th State Legislative Assembly of Sabah Year 2024, at the Sabah State Assembly.

In his speech, Tun Juhar stated that cooperation with the Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Cooperative Development (MEDC) will be strengthened in implementing high-impact programmes that suit the current needs and wants of entrepreneurs in this state.

Ewon also expressed his gratitude to the state government for its willingness to cooperate in further empowering entrepreneurs in Sabah.
