PUTATAN: Local residents in Putatan, especially in the Tanjung Keramat area, have been urged to work closely with the authorities to ensure the district remains clean.
Tanjung Keramat Assemblyman Shah Alfie Yahya (SAY) said maintaining homes, drains and yards plays a role not only in cleanliness but also in tackling disease issues such as dengue outbreaks.
He said residents must not rely solely on relevant agencies, particularly local authorities such as the Putatan District Council (MDPTN), to carry out maintenance and cleaning work.

“We hope residents here, especially in Tg Keramat, will take responsibility for keeping their compounds clean and join neighbours in communal clean‑ups."
“From our inspections, many drainage areas in housing estates and villages remain at risk due to poor hygiene, and we ask the authorities to encourage residents to raise their awareness of cleanliness,” he said.
He was speaking after carrying out a walkabout in several areas including Kampung Sri Pandan, Kg Pasir Putih, Taman Pasir Putih and Taman Jumbo, Putatan, on Tuesday.
Also present were Putatan District Officer Masawi Salleh; Senior Special Officer to the Putatan MP Ummar Ariff Abu Bakar; Community Development Leader (PPM) for Tanjung Keramat Latip Jiar; and Putatan District Council executive officer Ahmad Helmy Mohd Taib.
The delegation also included MDPTN officers and staff, Putatan Fire and Rescue Station, SESB and UPPM Tanjung Keramat.
Commenting on the walkabout, SAY said it was a continuation of earlier visits to survey drainage conditions, road issues and local infrastructure in the areas inspected.
“Among other things, we also inspected the condition of fire hydrant structures in the visited areas and I am satisfied with their current state."
“I also urge residents not to park vehicles in a way that obstructs fire hydrants, as this would hinder the fire service in an emergency."
“Other issues such as drainage, waste problems and local infrastructure were also surveyed and have been referred to the relevant agencies for comprehensive resolution,” he said.
He added that parking problems causing congestion and inconvenience to residents were among the concerns addressed during the walkabout.
