COVID-19: 309 NEW CASES, SIX DEATHS RECORDED IN SABAH TODAY

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah's Covid-19 caseload remains with triple-digits as 309 new cases were recorded today, pushing the cumulative total to 65,330.
Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said six Covid-19 fatalities were also recorded today - two in Tawau and one each in Semporna, Sandakan, Kuala Penyu, and Beaufort.
"Of the total cases, 143 were detected through close contact screening while 91 through cluster screening, 30 through symptomatic screening, 26 through targeted screening and 19 from other categories.
"Only six districts did not register any new cases today, namely Beluran, Tongod, Kota Marudu, Kuala Penyu, Tenom and Keningau," he said in a statement today.
Tawau recorded the highest number of new cases with 56 followed by Kota Kinabalu and Lahad Datu each with 32 cases, Kudat (27), Kinabatangan (26). Tuaran (21), Papar (19), Putatan and Kota Belud (each with 17 cases), Penampang (14) and Sandakan (10).
Meanwhile, Ranau has nine cases while Kunak has six, Nabawan (five), Semporna (four), Sipitang and Kalabakan each have two cases, while one case was each reported in Pitas, Telupid and Tambunan.
"To date, the number of active cases stands at 1,978 with 537 patients treated at hospitals and the rest in quarantine centres.
"The number of patients in the intensive care unit is 96 people with 37 requiring ventilator support," Masidi disclosed.
For recoveries, 235 patients have been discharged today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries in Sabah to 62,307.
