Covid-19: New workplace cluster detected in Kinabatangan

KOTA KINABALU: A new Covid-19 workplace cluster has been recorded in Kinabatangan today known as the Sungai Pin 2 cluster.
In a statement today, Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said the index case is a 52-year-old Indonesian woman who works at a palm oil plantation near Sungai Din, in Kinabatangan.
She tested positive after having symptoms since Aug 10 and was brought to Kinabatangan Hospital for further treatment.
“Following the case, 19 individuals tested positive through close contact screening involving the index case’s co-workers.
“So far, a total of 20 cumulative cases have been recorded, including 19 new cases detected today,” he added.
According to Masidi, investigation, sampling, as well as disinfection of Covid-19, are still ongoing to assess the spread of infection and the possibility of widespread infection that had occurred to nearby plantations.
