Covid-19: Sabah records 45 new death cases, 2,107 new daily cases

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah today records a staggering number of 45 Covid-19 death cases, said Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun.

Masidi stated that of the total death cases, Tawau recorded the highest with 17 new cases, followed by Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan (five), Papar and Penampang (four), Tuaran, Beluran, and Keningau (two), and one each in Kalabakan, Kinabatangan, Beaufort and Ranau.


The number of Covid-19 daily cases in Sabah today has risen to 2,107, an increase of 263 compared to yesterday's 1,844 bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 163,372.


“Close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 1,141 which is 54.2 per cent of the total daily cases.

"This was followed by symptomatic screening (740), cluster screening (36), targeted screening (12), and the rest is in other categories," he said in a statement today.

Masidi who is also the Covid-19 spokesperson for Sabah said a total of 3,355 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 120,699.


“The number of cases in category 1 and 2 is 3,429, category 3 with 18 cases, category 4 (six), and category 5 with six cases,” he added.

The number of active cases now stands at 4,904 with 3,057 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,756 at hospitals, nine in private facilities and the rest in temporary detention centres.

"To date, there are 199 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 80 of them ventilated."
