Covid-19: Sabah records staggering 1,514 new cases, 13 fatalities

KOTA KINABALU: The number of Covid-19 cases in Sabah continues to soar as the daily cases are now at 1,514 bringing the cumulative total of the statewide infection to 97,979.


Local Government and Housing Minister Datuk Masidi Manjun said that casualties related to the virus also continue to increase with 13 deaths recorded today in several districts in Sabah.


“Close contact screening continues to record the highest number of positive cases with 925 which is 61.10 per cent of the total daily cases.


"This was followed by symptomatic screening or sporadic cases (331), cluster screening (118), targeted screening (78), and other categories (62)," he said in a statement today.


Masidi also mentioned that out of the total daily cases today, 1,105 cases had either mild or no symptoms at all.


Meanwhile, Masidi said a total of 1,219 discharges were recorded today, bringing the cumulative total of recoveries to 84,709.


The number of active cases now stands at 4,688 with 3,533 patients being treated in quarantine centres, 1,099 at hospitals, and the rest in temporary detention centres.


"To date, there are 153 patients currently receiving treatment in the intensive care unit with 66 of them ventilated."
