KOTA KINABALU: DAP Sabah has acknowledged the results of the 17th Sabah General Election, describing them as a clear signal of a “serious crisis of confidence” in both DAP and Pakatan Harapan, which the party says must be addressed immediately and sincerely.
In a statement today, DAP Sabah Chairman Phoong Jin Zhe said the state chapter had convened a committee meeting on 7 December to review the election outcome and chart the party’s direction moving forward.
“We respect and accept the decision made by voters across Sabah. The outcome reflects a serious crisis of confidence in DAP and Pakatan Harapan—one that must be addressed urgently and with full sincerity,” Phoong said.
Phoong also confirmed that he would not be taking up any position in the new state government, a move fully supported by the party.
“DAP Sabah expresses its full support for my decision not to assume any post in the state government,” he said, adding that allegations that the party had sent a letter to the Chief Minister regarding participation in the government were untrue.
“DAP Sabah has never sent any such letter,” he stressed.
The party welcomed the announcement by Prime Minister Datuk Anwar Ibrahim on the increase of the e-invoice threshold to RM1 million and the commencement of the process to implement Sabah’s entitlement to 40 per cent of federal net revenue. However, Phoong said more reforms were needed to restore public confidence.
“More reforms must be implemented, and accelerated, to fully regain the confidence of the people,” he said.
“The government must expedite institutional reforms and intensify efforts to strengthen Sabah’s economy, including improving transparent and good governance, reducing bureaucracy and easing the burden on the people.”
Phoong also conveyed DAP Sabah’s condolences on the passing of BN Sabah Chairman and Kinabatangan MP Datuk Seri Panglima Bung Moktar Radin.
“We extend our deepest condolences to his family and pray they are given strength during this difficult time,” he said.
He further expressed gratitude to party workers, volunteers and supporters who campaigned tirelessly throughout the election.
“Your spirit, commitment and dedication will continue to inspire our struggle in the future,” Phoong added.
