DBKK to implement Smart Sabah Mobile Parking
9 August 2024
KOTA KINABALU : The city of Kota Kinabalu will be transitioning from its current coupon-based parking system to the Smart Sabah mobile parking application starting on August 16.
Users with existing scratch coupons can continue using them until the complete replacement by the application.
The implementation of the new online system will cover the entire Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) area, with parking rates remaining unchanged. The Smart Sabah Parking application offers users the convenience of paying for parking through their mobile devices, as well as the ability to extend their parking period and handle compound payments.
Additionally, users will receive timely notifications before their parking period expires, and have the option to top up their parking credit, and subscribe to a season pass through the application.
Mayor Dato’ Sri Dr Sabin Samitah highlighted that this initiative by DBKK Holdings Sdn Bhd aims to enhance services for the public, particularly in managing parking spaces under its jurisdiction and digitising service management in the city.
The introduction of a new digital payment system for public parking charges is expected to streamline the process and save time for users, catering to individuals from various backgrounds in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
This move aligns with the State Government's push towards digitalisation in service delivery. Sabin emphasised the thorough selection process for the service provider, focusing on maximising benefits for DBKK Holdings Sdn Bhd, the entity responsible for developing and managing the application.
The new system is projected to reduce costs by 30% and increase revenue by 20% compared to its predecessor. While the exact project cost was not disclosed, Sabin mentioned that it is significantly lower than similar systems used by local authorities in West Malaysia.
The pre-launch ceremony for Sabah Smart Parking at Hilton Kota Kinabalu was attended by DBKK Holdings Sdn Bhd executive director Jimon Jahim and director-general Lifred Wong.
