PENAMPANG: The commitment of the Penampang Community-Based Rehabilitation Centre (PPDK) in caring for and educating children with special needs deserves greater recognition and respect.
During a visit to the centre, Penampang Member of Parliament Datuk Ewon Benedick praised the teachers, parents and staff for their tireless dedication in providing education and support to the 60 children currently enrolled. The centre is run with the help of five teachers and a supervisor.
“I deeply appreciate the parents and teachers here who show such extraordinary commitment. They are an example of perseverance and compassion that we can all learn from,” he said.
He stressed that supporting children with special needs should be seen as a shared responsibility, ensuring that they too can enjoy happier and more fulfilling lives alongside their families, teachers and friends.
In June, the centre received an allocation of RM20,000 to meet its operational needs. Following the latest visit, Ewon announced a further RM20,000 contribution to help improve existing facilities.
The visit was also held in conjunction with National Month celebrations, bringing together trainees, parents, teachers and the wider community in Penampang.
Community-based initiatives such as PPDK Penampang provide vital services for children with special needs, while also creating spaces where families, educators and volunteers can work together for the benefit of society as a whole.
