KOTA KINABALU: The Malaysian People's Advocacy Group (Haram) has no right to question the appointment of former Chief Minister of Sabah, Tan Sri Datuk Seri Panglima Musa Haji Aman, as the 11th Yang Di-Pertua Negeri of Sabah.
Additionally, Haram has been reminded not to interfere in the affairs of Sabah, particularly in supporting the student movements planning to hold a rally on December 31.
The former President of the Honorary Members Association of the Malaysian Volunteer Corps (Rela) in Sabah, Brig. Gen. (Hon.) Rela, Dato' Jerry Ambuting Mohd Said, emphasised that Haram, which is based in Peninsular Malaysia, should not meddle in Sabah's affairs.
"What right does Haram have to question Musa's appointment as TYT of Sabah? All of this is done based on the State Constitution.
"Haram should read and understand the Sabah Constitution before making statements questioning Musa's appointment, which was made upon the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong," he said in a statement today.
He was responding to Haram's remarks condemning what they called the release of "big sharks" from corruption cases under the administration of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Haram's Secretary-General Adam Nor also raised the issue of Musa's appointment as the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah last week. He questioned the sanity of Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor and the Prime Minister in advising the Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Musa's appointment.
Jerry stated that Haram does not have the locus standi to challenge Musa's appointment, as Article 1(1) of the Sabah Constitution clearly states that the Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sabah is appointed at the discretion of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, based on the advice of the Chief Minister.
"What right does Haram have to be a 'meddler' in matters concerning the appointment of the TYT Sabah? They also have no right to question and challenge Hajiji's decision on this issue," he asserted.
Jerry further noted that Musa had been cleared of any corruption and money laundering charges in June 2020, during the administration of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, adding that he has contributed greatly to Sabah.
He suggested that if Haram is fully supporting the student movement in Sabah to rally against corruption in the state, they should also hold similar rallies in Kuala Lumpur.
Jerry also questioned what contributions Haram and the student movement have made to the country in general and to Sabah in particular.
"This student movement, aside from engaging in street protests, may be instigated by politically motivated parties, especially the opposition, aimed at disturbing public order," he concluded.
