KOTA KINABALU: The State Government is committed to enhancing infrastructure delivery through the official launch of the Sabah Utility Corridor (KUS), a strategic initiative designed to serve as a vital catalyst for systemic development across Sabah.

Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor, stated that the establishment of KUS is not merely about creating a new entity, but reflects the Government’s determination to accelerate development, streamline utility management, and attract new investments to the state.

“KUS is mandated to function as a One-Stop Agency to expedite utility work permit processes and to develop a comprehensive database of the state's utility assets,” he said at the official launch of KUS at the Marriott Hotel on Friday.

His speech was delivered by the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister, Datuk Abidin Madingkir.

The Chief Minister explained that this initiative aligns with the Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) roadmap, which emphasises holistic development and the delivery of efficient, transparent, and future-ready services.

He highlighted that the utilisation of digital technology and integrated utility mapping through KUS can speed up project approvals, minimise overlapping works, and improve safety during field operations.

Hajiji noted that this approach will have a significant impact, not only on the smooth implementation of government and private sector projects but also in supporting the state’s digitalisation agenda, enhancing investment competitiveness, and advancing smart city development.

“This is an example of public-private sector synergy that can deliver high-impact solutions for the people,” he said.

He also stressed that improved coordination of utility processes will open up new areas for development, thereby stimulating economic activity and creating employment opportunities, particularly in rural regions.

“Projects like this will strengthen industrial logistics and expand access to essential services such as electricity, water, and telecommunications for rural communities,” he added.

Hajiji urged all employees of KUSSB and Qhazanah Sabah Berhad to continue their efforts with professionalism and dedication to ensure that this facility truly benefits the people.

“We have laid a solid foundation. Now is the time to implement it boldly and sincerely,” he concluded.
