TENOM: Deputy Chief Minister III and Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, Datuk Ewon Benedick, inspected the Beaufort to Tenom railway line to assess the service conditions and maintenance levels firsthand.

He stated that the train service remains the primary transport mode for residents along the Beaufort-Tenom route, especially for work and school commutes.

"The train service is the preferred transport option for people along this route, particularly during peak work and school hours."

"I am pleased with the ongoing efforts and initiatives of the Sabah State Railway Department in ensuring the safety and continuity of this service," he said.

Ewon spoke to reporters after concluding the inspection here yesterday.

He also commended the department's prompt action in addressing damage such as landslides and embankment collapses along the route.

"I appreciate all the Sabah State Railway Department's initiatives for asset improvements, route maintenance, and ensuring continuous service for users," he added.

At Rayoh Railway Station, Ewon and his entourage received a brief on village land reserve applications extended by Melalap and Kemabong elected representatives.

"I was also briefed at Pangi Station on an incident earlier this year, along with route maintenance initiatives and new asset acquisitions to continually improve the service," he said.

In a related development, Ewon announced that his ministry will launch a study for the Sabah Sustainable Transport Master Plan, covering land transport including railways, as well as air and sea transport.

"The study findings will be presented to the Cabinet before being shared with Sabahans, and the train service will undoubtedly be a key component of the master plan," he said.

The train departed Beaufort Station around 2.07 pm, arriving at Tenom Station at 5.00 pm, with stops including Saliwangan, Halogilat, Rayoh, and Pangi.

Joining the inspection were Assistant Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Datuk Jonnybone Kurum, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry Datuk Thomas Logijin, Sabah State Railway Department officers, and agency representatives under the ministry.
