KUALA LUMPUR: Five Sabahans students currently pursuing their studies at the Malaysian Cooperative Entrepreneurship University (UKKM) have received scholarships from the Cooperative Education Trust Fund (KWAPd) and the Malaysian Cooperative Institute (IKMA).
The Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives, Datuk Ewon Benedick, stated that all the students are enrolled in Diploma, Bachelor's, and Master's degree programs focusing on business management, cooperatives, and entrepreneurship.
"Of the five students, three were awarded scholarships from the Cooperative Education Trust Fund (KWAPd), while the other two received sponsorship from the Malaysian Cooperative Institute (IKMA).
"This is part of my initiative and the government's efforts through KUSKOP to ensure that children from Sabah, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds, do not miss out on education," he said in a media statement here today.
Ewon, who is also the Chancellor of UKKM, hopes that more students, particularly from Sabah, will choose to further their studies at the university.
"I have previously requested UKKM to conduct special admissions for students from Sabah and Sarawak. This aligns with my focus on providing additional support for both states while reducing the existing focus in the ministry," he said.
He mentioned that students who are children of any cooperative member can apply for funding provided by his ministry in collaboration with the Malaysian Cooperative Commission (SKM).
"Applications can be made online or directly through me to be forwarded to UKKM for consideration. We will continue to prioritize students from the B40 income group," he said.
