Fly both national and state flags to show patriotism- Hajiji

23 August 2024

TUARAN: Hoist the Malaysian Flag and the Sabah flag to observe and enliven the National Month, Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said today.

He encouraged the residents of this state to take part in the '1 House 1 Flag' Initiative, offering them a chance to demonstrate their patriotism and gratitude for the nation.

'By hoisting the Malaysian flag and the flag of Sabah in every home, we not only liven up the atmosphere of Independence Day but also strengthen the bond as Malaysian citizens,' he said at the launch of the Merdeka Jalur Gemilang Expedition Programme (KMJG) 2024 at the Pekan Tenghilan Community Hall today.

Hajiji's speech was read by the State Minister of Rural Development, Datuk Jahid Jahim. He said that this year is a special year for the people of Sabah because for the first time, National Day and Sabah Day are officially celebrated simultaneously, after Sabah Day was officially proclaimed on June 5th.

According to him, the celebration of National Day and Sabah Day is important for Sabah because it is a time for the people to appreciate the meaning of freedom from decades of colonization. He said, Independence is not just a sacred word containing seven letters and three syllables.

Independence is the result of a strong determination to redeem the nation's dignity, it is the result of a sacred struggle to defend the homeland.

'Independence is the culmination of a struggle to start a new journey. Independence is built on the pillars of history, to create a new history. Independence is the precious possession of the nation,' he emphasised.

Hajiji said that the effort to colour and shape the future of the country lies in the commitment and sincerity of the younger generation because it is on their shoulders that the hope rests for the country to continue to unite and be cohesive.

'On the shoulders of the youth, we will entrust the responsibility to continue to advance the country.' 'God has bestowed this earth with wealth and various opportunities, therefore, the youth must seize these vast opportunities by building capabilities and creating even more brilliant and glorious successes so that the country becomes distinguished,' he said.

He said that the KMJG Programme is not just an annual event, but a symbol of unity, pride, and gratitude as Malaysian citizens.

'It reminds us of the sacrifices and hard work of the national heroes who fought for the freedom and prosperity that we are enjoying today,'’ he said.
